Cataratas Agrio - Argentina's Thunderous Single Stream Waterfall
Situated within the Aguas Blancas Gorge of Argentina's northern Neuquén Province are the majestic waterfalls known as Cataratas Agrio. Here the rushing Agrio River plunges nearly 500 feet over an immense cliff as a single dominant stream, presenting a thunderous and powerful sight.
Thrill seekers can access the base of the waterfall via a series of steep metal staircases and walkways anchored to the cliff beside the cascade. The raw power of the plunging waters becomes even more impressive up close. Well-marked trails connect to scenic viewpoints above the gorge too.
Visiting the falls is ideal during Argentina's dry season between November and March. The waterfall lies within Lanín National Park, accessible on tours from nearby San Martin or via rented car.
With its sheer single drop and deafening roar within a pristine forest, Cataratas Agrio exemplifies the untamed natural beauty of Patagonia's soaring waterfalls and rugged landscapes.
