Torres del Paine National Park - Chile's Dramatic Patagonian Trekking Paradise
Encompassing mountains, glaciers and sweeping steppe, Chile's Torres del Paine National Park has earned global fame for its breathtaking landscapes. The centerpiece is the jagged granite towers of Paine Massif rising over 9,000 feet, whose image has become an iconic Patagonia vista.
Trekking routes like the demanding "W" circuit take hikers past glacial lakes, through the valleys of the Paine Massif, and in view of the distinctive Cuernos del Paine horns. The park is also home to wildlife like guanacos, foxes and condors. Campsites and refugios provide overnight stops along multi-day treks.
Torres del Paine's extreme southern latitude brings wild weather changes, including intense winds. The camping season runs from December to February, Patagonia's summer. The park is located about 200 miles north of Punta Arenas, accessible by rental car or tour buses.
With some of South America's most astonishing mountain scenery, Torres del Paine enthralls outdoor adventurers who make the journey to hike through these singularly majestic landscapes.
